A good way to save on heating costs is to use an electric blanket. With an electric blanket, you can stay warm without having to crank up the furnace. But if your home or apartment is drafty, just draping yourself in an electric blanket might not be enough. Learn how to get the most warmth out of your electric blanket.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • electric blanket
  • flannel or wool blanket
  • wool cap
  • wool socks
  1. Step 1

Plug in the electric blanket and turn it to its highest setting.

  2. Step 2

Let the blanket sit and heat up. Depending on the make and model of your blanket, it could take a few minutes.

  3. Step 3

Put on a wool hat. This will help keep your body heat from escaping.

  4. Step 4

Put on wool socks. This too will help keep your body heat from escaping.

  5. Step 5

Once the electric blanket is warm, get underneath it.

  6. Step 6

Take your flannel or wool blanket and place it over the electric blanket. This will trap the heat that the electric blanket generates as well as your body heat.

Tips & Warnings
  • Be sure to read the directions on your electric blanket before using it.
  • Always turn off the electric blanket if it begins to irritate your skin or when you are finished using it.
  • If a tear develops in your electric blanket, discard it immediately. It could become a fire hazard.
