Flip and Rotate an Object Using Adobe InDesign

You are working with an object in a magazine layout. You want to flip the object horizontally, then rotate the object 20 degrees. Adobe InDesign has a simple method for flipping and rotating objects.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

    Flip an Object

  1. Step 1

Open an Adobe InDesign document from the File menu or Welcome screen. The document should have at least one image on the page.

  2. Step 2

Activate the SELECTION TOOL in the Tools box.

  3. Step 3

Click and drag the left/right image handle to the opposite side of the frame. This action will flip the image horizontally. Release the mouse to view the reflection of the original image.

  4. Rotate an Object

  5. Step 1

Activate the ROTATE TOOL in the Tools box.

  6. Step 2

Use the mouse to select the image. Grab one of the image handles to turn the image on its side approximately 20 degrees.

  7. Step 3

Select UNDO ROTATE ITEM from the Edit menu. To rotate the image using a precise angle, select TRANSFORM from the Rotate menu. Select ROTATE from the submenu. Type 20 in the Angle field. To preview the rotation effect, insert a checkmark into the Preview box.

Tips & Warnings
  • Hold down the SHIFT key before resizing the image handles to maintain the original proportions of the image.
