Children love stories and love to be entertained. Teaching your children that they can find ways to act out some of their favorite stories will give them a way to entertain themselves and others as well as helping them learn to be creative.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Hand puppets
  • Dress up Box
  • Animal masks
  • Various Other Props
  • Favorite Children Books
Step1
Help your children to find stories that they enjoy that are easy to act out and role play. Some of the classic Fables are very good for this but there are lots of current books that are very creative and easily translated into plays.
Step2
You can encourage children to utilize different ways to act the stories out. Give children who can read a chance to be the narrator of the story while younger siblings act out the story. Or you can read the book while the kids bring it to life. Encourage them to use various props like puppets, costumes, and masks. You can even create some of your own props at home.
Step3
Have them practice and then host performances of their performances for friends and family members. This will really encourage children to take it seriously pay attention to the story. It is a good chance to help them learn to work together to put on the show.

Tips & Warnings

  • Try to let them work as much of the details out on their own as you can but be there to offer support or ideas when asked.
