How to Decorate With Marshmallow Peeps

How to Decorate With Marshmallow Peeps thumbnail
Peeps come in a variety of colors.

Peeps are those cute, melt-in-your-mouth marshmallow candies popular during the holidays. They began as a seasonal treat in the shape of a yellow chick that was available only at Easter. They are now available year-round and include Halloween-themed, Christmas-themed and Valentine's Day-themed shapes. Their bright colors make them perfect for creative holiday and party decorations, and all you have to do is let your imagination go to work and see what hatches.

Instructions

  1. Holiday Decorations

    • 1

Make an Easter table centerpiece or a decorative Easter dessert. Make a wreath by cutting out a cardboard wreath template. Hot glue marshmallow bunnies or chicks in alternating colors such as pink and white or yellow and lavender onto the wreath. Put a candle or flower arrangement inside the center of the wreath. Make some nests for a decorative dessert. Coat chow mein noodles with melted chocolate, and clump them together to form a nest. Place green-tinted coconut flakes on the noodles, and top with a marshmallow Peeps chick. Place a nest next to each plate as a table decoration and dessert.

    • 2

Use pumpkin and chocolate cat Peeps as a Halloween centerpiece. Take a medium-sized pumpkin, and attach the pumpkin Peeps all over it with toothpicks. Pack them tightly so not too much of the pumpkin shows through. Place the pumpkin on a mirror or large, decorative plate, and surround with the chocolate cats. Use autumn leaves as a final touch for the centerpiece. Or melt a marshmallow Peep in the microwave on wax paper until it resembles a melted witch. Attach a small witch hat from the craft store, and include it as part of a haunted house scene for a Halloween party.

    • 3

Add Christmas marshmallow Peeps to the top of peppermint sticks for a sweet drink stirrer. Include these decorations as part of a buffet table or in Christmas gift baskets. Stack different-sized cardboard star cutouts so they resemble a Christmas tree. Using hot glue, attach Peeps peppermint stars to the points on each star. Use this as a table decoration or to make a cookie tray look more decorative.

    Party Decorations

    • 4

Make food look more festive with marshmallow Peeps. Top cakes, cookies or cupcakes with them, and instantly make your baked good more interesting and fun.

    • 5

Save a few packs of Peeps stars or chicks for a summer barbecue party. Skewer them in alternating colors, and add them to the barbecue table. They can be spray painted red, white and blue for a patriotic barbecue.

    • 6

Enhance a wedding table with a bride and groom bunny or chick Peeps. Buy small wedding items such as a miniature veil, top hat, tuxedo, earrings and buttons at a craft store. Dress the bunnies or chicks as the bride and groom, using hot glue to attach the items. Place the betrothed Peeps on the wedding table or as favors for each guest.

    • 7

Collect takeout boxes from Chinese restaurants and fast food places. Throw a takeout dinner party, and fill the saved boxes with a variety of Peeps. Scatter the takeout boxes around the table for dessert.

    • 8

Excite small children at a birthday party with a marshmallow Peeps bunny rainbow. Spray paint the bunnies if you need different colors, or use only the colors provided. Arrange the bunnies in a layered arch, and place the birthday cake underneath.

Tips & Warnings

  • Provide plates of edible Peeps at parties so people don't destroy your decorations or consume Peeps that are inedible.

  • Use spray paint if you need Peeps in a color the company doesn't provide. This also makes them more versatile because the Easter chicks and Christmas stars can be used at Halloween with a quick coat of orange or black.

  • Notify your guests if your decorations are not edible to avoid any safety concerns.
