All-inclusive resorts are wonderful for all kinds of vacations: romantic, relaxing, adventurous and family. Don't expect to get the best of everything at every resort, though. A little research will help you make the most of your vacation.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Free time
  • Money
  • Love of traveling
  1. Step 1

Decide where you would like to go. Most all-inclusives are on or near the beach, which make them ideal for a variety of kinds of travel. The most well-known all-inclusives are on the coast of Mexico, including the party towns of Cancun and Cozumel. Other excellent resorts are found in the Bahamas, various other Caribbean islands and even exotic locales like Tahiti.

  2. Step 2

Decide when you would like to go. Note that summers, spring break and Christmas break are generally peak times. Also be aware that May through November is hurricane season in the Caribbean. This might mean prices are lower, but there is a small chance your vacation will be interrupted or delayed by a storm.

  3. Step 3

Ask for prices or research prices yourself online or using a travel agent.

  4. Step 4

Compare your options. Make a list of the things that are most important to you and see how each resort measures up. Consider the quality of food and number of restaurants. Ask if the resorts have a child-care program or even educational and fun activities specifically for kids. Ask if the resorts have multiple pools or a private beach.

  5. Step 5

Figure out what activities and amenities are included in the price. The resort might include kayaking, but not jet skiing. The resort will probably include alcohol, but might have a surcharge for top-shelf liquor or gourmet meals.

Tips & Warnings
  • Book well in advance to get the best selection.
  • Some resorts will include shows and other entertainment free of charge.
  • Ask about special packages that include private dinner on the beach or couples massages.
  • Some resorts offer free or discounted stays for children, making them an ideal destination for families.
  • All-inclusives make great destinations for weddings because most offer packages. Plus your guests have a variety of activities to keep them busy.
  • All-inclusives also make great honeymoon destinations, especially if you book at a couples-only resort.
  • Check the resort's regulations on tipping. Most all-inclusives include tips in the price of your room, but some allow employees to accept tips as well.
  • Consider buying travel insurance, especially if traveling during hurricane season.
  • Be sure to apply for a passport well in advance of your vacation, unless traveling to Puerto Rico or the U.S. Virgin Islands.
