Suppress Your Appetite With Food

Overeating and eating the wrong types of food are the main reasons that we gain weight. Finding foods that actually suppress your appetite will help you keep extra weight off while improving the way that you feel. Below are some ways that you can suppress your appetite with food.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Eat an apple a day, not only to keep the doctor away, but also to keep those hungry feelings away. It is proven that apples are high in fiber, anti-inflammatory in nature and since they require more chewing, they give your body the idea that you are less hungry.

  2. Step 2

Make a salad before your meals to encourage an appetite suppression effect. It doesn't have to be a big salad, just a small one will be efficient in making you feel less hungry while eating your meal. All types of greens including cabbage, endives and spinach are excellent foods to suppress your appetite.

  3. Step 3

Curb your cravings with pine nuts. Of all other nuts and seeds, pine nuts contain the most protein and contain an appetite suppressing pinolenic acid that naturally curbs hunger. The effect is given because of the polyunsaturated fat occurrances in pine nuts that give you a full feeling.

  4. Step 4

Toss some flaxseed into your food for appetite control. Flaxseed oil has an excellent source of omega-3 and just an ounce of flaxseed gives approximately eight grams of fiber. They have also been studied to have a positive impact on lowering your cholesterol and preventing cancer. You can put them into salads or sprinkle on vegetables to suppress your appetite.

  5. Step 5

Suppress your appetite with soup, its a great way to lessen your hunger and lose weight. Most soups have low calories and a high water content except for the creamy types. Eating a couple of bowls of soup a day is a good way to suppress your appetite with food.

  6. Step 6

Drink a liquid meal containing whey protein powder to suppress your appetite. Whey has many benefits, including weight loss, building muscle and lowering your blood pressure. The impact on food intake that is associated with whey effects your hormones to give you that full feeling, which makes whey another good choice to suppress your appetite.

  7. Step 7

Eat oatmeal every day. The instant kind of oatmeal doesn't give the same high fiber content as real oatmeal does. Choosing to eat a bowl of real oatmeal at breakfast or a snack is healthy for you and will suppress your appetite for a good amount of the day. You could add some ground flaxseed or a few pine nuts to reduce your hunger for a longer period of time.

on 10/6/2009 While most appetite suppressants are based on crazy drugs or exotic herbs, there is one 100% natural and best of all... cheap!
Have you heard about Yerba Mate? It containes 196 active compounds, compared to only 144 for green tea.
Researchers at the Pasteur Institute concluded “ yerba mate contains practically all the vitamins necessary to sustain life”.
I drink it everyday especially before meals and it takes that "crazy hunger" feeling away. You definetely eat less and you are still well-fed.
One last thing I´d recommend... if you try it go organic using the traditional way.
Here´s a slide show on how to brew it : www.mymateworld.com/step1.htm
Enjoy!

on 1/25/2008 Great suggestions, especially the soups and salads. Filling up on healthy foods can avoid those sugary/salty cravings which often lead dieters astray.
