If you want to impress your family or dinner guests, try spicing up plain mashed potatoes with a little dill. This simple recipe is sure to add a sweet kick to your mashed potatoes. Things You'll Need

  • 2 lbs. of russet potatoes (about four medium)
  • 1/4 cup low fat milk
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk
  • 2 tsp. dill weed
  • Salt and pepper
  • Butter
  • Large saucepan

Instructions

  1. Cooking Potatoes

    • 1

      Peel potatoes and wash them.

      Chop potatoes into 1-inch pieces.

      Fill the saucepan with water and add potatoes and a dash of salt.

      Bring the water to a boil over high heat. Once it begins to boil, turn the heat down to simmer.

      Allow the potatoes to boil for 10 minutes or until tender enough to cut with a fork.

      Drain the water from the pan and pour the potatoes into a large mixing bowl.

    Mashing and Seasoning

      Mash the potatoes with a hand masher until they are free of lumps.

      Stir in low fat milk, buttermilk and dill and mix thoroughly.

      Serve immediately with salt, pepper and butter.

Tips & Warnings

  • This recipe can also be made with instant mashed potatoes. If you are using instant potatoes, add 2 tsp. of dill weed to the prepared potatoes.
