How to Shop for a Computer

Step1
On a sheet of paper, list all the functions you wish your computer to have.
Step2
Ask a friend or family member that has knowledge of computers to help you.
Step3
Find at least three computer stores that are trustworthy, where the staff is there to help you, not just to sell to you.
Step4
Go to the first store and tell the salesman your requirements.
Step5
Get that store rep to compile a stat sheet for you listing all those requirements and a range of prices for computers that fulfill them.
Step6
Repeat Step 5 at other computer stores.
Step7
Have a friend review all your estimates and help you decide which unit is best for you.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make sure that your computer is expandable, meaning that it has the capacity to add other pieces of hardware such as additional RAM and an expanded or external hard drive.
  • Don't let a salesman talk you into spending more then you want for functions you don't need.
