How to Deal with Toddler Masturbation

Dealing with a masturbating toddler can be hard for some parents to handle. Toddler masturbation is a normal, healthy part of your child's development when your toddler does it in the privacy of your own home. Many toddlers have masturbated on their favorite stuffed animals, and parents should know that it's not a cause for alarm.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Ignore toddler masturbation. If you get angry or flustered when your toddler masturbates, many children will do it just to see your reaction.
Step2
Recognize toddler masturbation as a normal, healthy part of their sexual development.
Step3
Confine masturbation to your home. Toddlers should know that it is never appropriate to fondle their private parts at daycare, preschool, the supermarket, or other public places, it is only okay at home.
Step4
Explain to your toddler that it is never okay to touch themselves in the company of others. You should explain that touching private parts is a solo activity.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you think your toddler is too focused on his sexuality or often uses sexual terminology, consult your child's pediatrician. This could be a sign of sexual abuse.
  • Make sure your toddler knows it is never okay for anyone else to touch his private parts.
