Things You'll Need:
- Wood ladder
- 1" x 6" boards
- Saw
- Drill
- Wood screws
- L brackets
-
Step 1
Stand your wood ladder in place.
-
Step 2
Measure how wide the ladder rungs are from the inside of the left to the inside of the right side.
-
Step 3
Cut your 1" x 6" boards to this length. You will need one for each rung of the wood ladder that you want to turn into a shelf.
-
Step 4
Pre-drill two holes through each wood rung on the ladder, one each near the left and right sides. Drill right through the middle of the rung.
-
Step 5
Sand the left and right edges of the 1" x 6" boards you cut to the length of each rung.
-
Step 6
Place one board on the top rung. Line up the back of the board with the back of the rung.
-
Step 7
Use a pencil to mark through the hole in the rung and onto the board.
-
Step 8
Drill holes part of the way in the boards. Do not drill all the way through. Simply get the hole started. Repeat this for each board on each rung. Screw each wood board into place on the rungs.
-
Step 9
Inside the top rung screw in both of the L brackets. The top of the L bracket should be inside the top of the ladder. Have the back metal part laying so it will touch the wall when your ladder is against the wall.
-
Step 10
Fold the ladder up and hold it against the wall. Mark where the holes in the back of the L bracket hit the wall with a pencil.
-
Step 11
Pre-drill the holes in the wall. If you do not hit a stud, use a toggle bolt. A wall anchor will also work on dry wall.
-
Step 12
Screw the L bracket into the wall. This will firmly attach your ladder bookcase to the wall.

on 10/22/2008 I would like to see a picture of a ladder shelf. Sounds cool.
