An event poem is a fun and goofy poem about an item of your choice. This form of poetry is a great form of relaxation and therapy. If you want to take your mind off a matter, transfer your thoughts to something like a candle and have fun writing your poem.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Pencil or pen
  • Paper or computer
Step1
Choose an object. Let's say a maroon candle.
Step2
Write down the elements of this object. In the case of our example, there is a wick, wax, the little metal piece that sits at the bottom of the candle and the maroon color of our candle.
Step3
Think about the uses of your object, and the items attached to it.
A candle is lit for light. The metal plate protects and holds in the wick, the wick is what is lit. The wax melts.
Step4
Think of some alternate uses for this object and its elements and write them down in the form of images and actions.

Example:
Peel the wax to place on your page and make wax paper.
Peel the wax to give to a bee for Christmas.
Extract the maroon and paint your room.

These are going to sound kooky or crazy as they are far fetched and not the average uses for the item and its’ elements.
Step5
Number the left side of your paper 1 to 4.
Step6
Write four of your new uses for the object down, one for each line, but start every line with an action verb.
Step7
Continue to add more items or steps to your poem if you have more and then you are done.
