How to Present a Science Fair Project

While attempting to put together a winning science fair project, most people focus on coming up with an unique experiment. But no matter how great your science fair project is, you won't win unless you know how to exhibit the project well. The key to a winning science fair project is to show the judges that you understand your subject and the scientific method.

Instructions

    • 1

Write up your report on your science fair project in five major sections: introduction, procedure, data, conclusions and references.

    • 2

Print out your report on a high-quality laser printer.

    • 3

Prepare the graphic elements of your science fair project, like photographs of your project or a graph of your data drawn on your computer. If you have Microsoft Office, Excel allows you to draw simple graphs quite easily.

    • 4

Cut out the sections of your report and glue to the colored paper so there is about a 1/2 inch margin of color around each section.

    • 5

Glue each of your sections of your report to your poster board. Make sure to place your sections so that you discuss your science fair project in the correct order: introduction, procedure, data, conclusions and references.

    • 6

Practice a two-minute oral summary of your science fair project, using the poster board as your visual aide. Most judges will ask you to tell them about your project, so be prepared. If you are nervous about public speaking, it might help to practice in front of friends or family.

    • 7

Have friends or family ask you questions about your science fair project.

Tips & Warnings

  • Be polite to the judges and thank them for their time.

  • Do not let a parent do a science fair project for you. The judges will probably be able to tell you didn't do the work.
