How to Make a Bark Rubbing

Help your kids differentiate among different kinds of trees by creating different bark rubbings.

Things You'll Need:

• Thin drawing paper
• 4 thumbtacks
• Crayon stubs
• Mature trees

How to Make a Bark Rubbing

1. Using the thumbtacks, pin the paper against a healthy tree trunk at the child's eye level.

2. Remove the paper from the crayon and rub the flat length of the crayon across the paper. The bark will begin to appear on the paper.

3. Use many different colors if desired.

4. Repeat with a variety of trees.

5. Hang all of the bark art where everyone can enjoy it.

• Remember to remove the thumbtacks when you are done.
