Your passport is about to expire and your trip just a few weeks away. Or you suddenly realize that after all these years, your driver's license is up for renewal and you can't possibly stand waiting in those long lines at the DMV.

  • Your old passport in good condition
  • 2 passport photos
  • Money
  • Proof of a vision test
  • Old driver's license
  • Money

Renew a Passport Quickly

Step1
Get 2 new passport photos. FedEx/Kinko's does this quickly and for a reasonable cost. Photo studios and camera stores also often will take passport photos.
Step2
Contact Passport Express (passportexpress.com)
Step3
Download all pertinent documents after you have carefully determined how quickly you need your passport. Complete the documents.
Step4
Express mail the documents, your old passport and copies of your travel itinerary to Passport Express. Be sure the travel documents indicate the dates on which you will be traveling. Enclose a check for the proper amount (up to $326).
Step5
Wait patiently for your new passport to arrive within two to 10 business days.

Remember in most states today, you can renew your driver's license online or by mail or at new DMV Express offices thus saving travel time to the DMV and time waiting in line.

Know that if you have a fixed address, a good driving record and proof of a vision test, states including California, Georgia and South Carolina will allow you to renew both online or via mail. States are updating quickly so check your local website to see if your state now offers this service.

Be aware that states including New York, Nevada and Vermont with others joining daily, have created express DMV offices. They claim that at these new offices renewing a license can take just a few minutes.

  • If your passport is not in good condition, you cannot use this service.
  • If you are applying for your first passport or your passport has already expired, you may not be able to use this service.
  • If you are traveling with children, the rules are different depending on the age of the child.
  • If you have moved since your last license was issued, you cannot use these services.
  • You must have a clean driving record to use these services.
