Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Things You’ll Need:
Step1
Pray for enlightenment from the Holy Spirit when listening to a gospel message. It is the Holy Spirit who teaches us truth.
Step2
Have a Bible on hand to check scripture verses to confirm what is being preached. Gospel truth can always be found in the Bible.
Step3
Determine if anything in the message says that Jesus dying on the cross doesn’t mean anything. This is a false teaching. Jesus’ death on the cross was the only way to make it possible for us to be saved. When we believe that gospel message and accept Jesus into our heart, we receive the gift of eternal life. There is no other way to heaven than through Jesus.
Step4
Listen for anything in the message that sounds like there are things a person must do to be saved, such as completely following the 10 Commandments. If so, that is a false teaching. Although it is definitely good to follow the 10 Commandments and to be obedient to God, because of our human nature, we are unable to be sinless. It requires only for us to receive the free gift of Jesus to be saved.
Step5
Decide if the message you hear says anything about ways to get on God’s good side. This is a false message. God loves us all equally and cannot be bought. He gives favor to those he chooses, not by what they do, but by what he does.
Step6
Ask if the message says anything about personally taking responsibility for making up for the sin in your life. This is a false message. There is nothing we can do that will repay for the sin we have done in our lives. Only Jesus can repay the sin debt.
Step7
Always strive for wisdom. It is so important to know the truth of the gospel. “Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves” (Matthew 10:16).

on 2/8/2008 Jesus said...“Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill. For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled. Whoever therefore breaks one of the least of these commandments, and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever does and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.” – Matthew 5:17-19 -- Jesus and His follower practiced what He preached.

on 2/8/2008 Hi Kathy, I really like the part to confirm what is being preached in the bible and completely practice the 10 commandments. I hope that includes Number 4 by keeping the 7th day Holy and not working Friday sunset to Saturday sunset (the biblical sabbath). So many millions are deceived in thinking Sunday is the day of worship...the first day of the week. I truely believe if everyone followed the laws of God, this world will truely be 100% peaceful. But we will have to wait for the Kingdom of God on earth when all people will know the truth and follow our Father's laws completely. Long wait. Good job!
