Playing the guitar can be easy or difficult depending on your skill level and experience, but actually finding the perfect guitar to learn and play on can be more difficult. There are many variables to consider, and when dealing with something as expensive as a guitar, you better consider those variables! Read on to find out how to find your perfect guitar.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A guitar - that's why you're reading this!!
  1. Step 1

Look at your budget. If you do not have a ton of money to spend, do not set your sights on that Stevie Ray Vaughan replica for $1,500.

  2. Step 2

Decide what type of music you want to play. Guitars with single coil pickups (Stratocaster, Telecaster) are better for lighter rock, jazz and blues because they do not sound as good distorted.

Guitars with humbucker pickups are much better for hard rock and metal because humbuckers sound great distorted.

  3. Step 3

Figure out how serious you are. Is this guitar for practice in your room, or for a gig with a band?

  4. Step 4

Search online and find websites with reviews, prices and more information, as well as going to actual guitar stores.

  5. Step 5

Before purchasing, be sure to play all of the guitars you have in mind. A guitar will sound different from amp to amp, and so you want to find one that sounds great with your equipment, as well as looking pretty, instead of just the latter.

  6. Step 6

Compare prices everywhere. Some websites will sell for more and some for less. Some will even let you work out a monthly payment plan.

Tips & Warnings
  • This can take time. Do not settle on just any guitar.
