If you are looking for a fun addition to your coffee table or a unique handmade gift, glass coasters will do the trick. They are fairly easy to make, but do require safety precautions and special tools. This is a good project for those just beginning to work with glass.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Stained glass pieces
  • Soldering iron
  • Solder
  • Copper foil
  • Breaking pliers
  • Glass cutter
  • Flux
  • Flux brush
  • Four glass stones per coaster
  • Stained glass glue
  1. Step 1

    Put on your safety goggles.

  2. Step 2

Choose two colors of glass. Cut a 2"x4" piece out of each color using your glass cutter and breaking pliers. Each coaster will measure approximately 4"x4".

  3. Step 3

Wrap the edges of each piece of glass with copper foil.

  4. Step 4

Use your soldering iron to fuse together the long ends of the two pieces of glass Once it has heated up. You can either make a square or offset the pieces slightly for a different look.

  5. Step 5

Apply a drop of glue to each corner of the bottom of the coast after the glass has cooled. Attach the flat side of the glass rock to each drop of glue.

  6. Step 6

    Allow to dry.
