Photo candle votives are a fun way to display favorite photos around the house. You can also use these photo candle votives as a centerpiece at a wedding, in a row on the fireplace mantel, or even in the bathroom for added décor. Any photo will work in this candle craft.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Photo
  • Acetate
  • Glass candle votive
  • Tape measure
  • Candle
  • Scissors
  • Double sided tape
  1. Step 1

Measure how tall your clear glass candle votive is. Measure the circumference as well.

  2. Step 2

Copy your photo and print it on a sheet of acetate paper. This can be done at the local copy store or you can use a printer, scanner or copier at home. The sheet of acetate needs to be at least as large as your clear glass candle votive.

  3. Step 3

Cut out the photo on the sheet of acetate to the same size as your clear glass candle votive.

  4. Step 4

Lay the sheet of acetate face down on a flat surface. Lay a towel down first if your surface is not perfectly smooth.

  5. Step 5

Apply some double sided tape to both of the left and right edges. Line this up neatly on the edges because it will be slightly visible.

  6. Step 6

Wrap the acetate photo around the clear glass candle votive. Line the edges up perfectly.

  7. Step 7

Press the edges with the double sided tape onto the glass to hold the photo in place. Run your fingers down the edges to push out any air bubbles.

  8. Step 8

Place a candle inside of the photo candle holder. Tea candles or pillar candles are best. Light the candle and enjoy.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use a variety of photos in black and white to create multiple photo candle votives.
  • If you are using these for centerpieces at a wedding, use photos of the bride and groom from throughout their life.
  • You can also print your photos on opaque vellum. This will allow a less bright light to shine through.
  • Pour some sand in the bottom of the glass votive to add weight to the candle holder. This will also help fire proof your photo candle votive.
  • To save money you can print the photos on white copy paper. The light from the candle will still shine through the paper and cast a nice glow.
  • Try printing your photos on acetate that is 4 inches shorter than your clear glass votive. Attach it to the votive so it is 2 inches down form the top. This will give a whole new look.
  • Always use a glass candle votive. You do not want to create a fire hazard.
