How to Use a Spray Paint Can
Spray paint provides a fast, easy option for painting some surfaces when a brush or other painting techniques might not work as well. Spray paint is non-toxic once it has dried, but the aerosol component in the can requires that you take certain precautions when using spray paint. This is especially true if you are painting indoors. Use spray cans outside whenever possible for health considerations.

1
Read the instructions on the can. Each manufacturer may have its own recommendations for use; be familiar with these before using the paint. Prepare the work area by laying down old newspapers or drop cloths on the floor or work surface to avoid overspraying onto these surfaces. Use masking tape to tightly seal any areas not to be painted. Be sure you remain upwind of the paint spray. Wear goggles and a disposable breathing mask to avoid paint getting in your eyes or lungs.

2
Shake the can vigorously. This mixes the pigment that may have settled into the bottom of the can. The noise you hear when you shake it is a mixing ball that helps prepare the paint for use.

3
Remove the cap and point the nozzle toward the area you wish to paint. Keep the nozzle about 6 inches from the target and keep the can moving back and forth slowly and methodically.

4
Complete the first coat of paint and wait 10 minutes before applying the next coat.
