Ice blocking is a cheap activity you can do with your friends, family, date or youth group during the summer (and winter if you don't get snow) and it's a total blast!

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Ice Block
  • Hill
  1. Step 1

Set the plan to go ice blocking. Find a good hill for riding down.

  2. Step 2

Go to your local grocery store and buy an ice block. Enthusiasts can make customized ice blocks with ropes freezed into them for handles. Adding coloring to the water before freezing is also popular.

  3. Step 3

Start at the top of the hill. Position yourself on your ice block, sitting on it, with a towel between you and the ice block.

  4. Step 4

Race your friends down the hill.

  5. Step 5

Once you've done it a few times, try some new moves like riding on your knees, making ice sleds with 2+ people, doing 360's, going off a small jump, lying on your stomach, lying feet first on your back...get creative!

Tips & Warnings
  • Check with the park where hill is located to make sure ice blocking is permitted as it can damage the grass.
  • Look for places where the hills and bottom of hills have short grass for less drag.
  • Prepare to for a fall, possible bruises, bug bites or getting covered in mud.
  • Place a towel between you and the ice block to keep dryer.
