This simple clock is made from any heart shaped platter. As Valentine’s Day approaches more heart shaped plates and platters will be available at home decor stores. You can turn any heart shaped platter into a fun and whimsical clock perfect for your own home or as a gift.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Heart shaped platter or plate
  • Drill
  • Ceramic drill bit
  • Clock kit
  • Epoxy glue
  • Masking tape
  • Pencil
  • Picture hanging hook
  1. Step 1

Place a 1-inch piece of masking tape right in the middle of the heart shaped patter.

  2. Step 2

Make an X right in the center if the heart shaped platter, on the masking tape. You need to mark the center of the plate.

  3. Step 3

Drill a hole in the X using the ceramic drill bit on your power drill. Work slowly and grind your way through the platter.

  4. Step 4

Clean the dust off of the heart shaped platter with a clean, dry rag. Remove the masking tape.

  5. Step 5

Check to make sure there is no debris left in the hole. If there is debris, you can run the drill back through the hole and work it back and forth.

  6. Step 6

Install the clock kit in the middle of the hole. Screw in the different elements of the clock kit following the instructions on your specific kit.

  7. Step 7

Glue the numbers of the clock onto the face of the heart shaped plate. Use a clear epoxy glue to adhere them. This clear glue will show up less and hold for years.

  8. Step 8

Install a picture hanging hook on the back of the heart shaped clock. Use epoxy glue to glue a metal picture hanging hook on the top of the back of the heart. Let the epoxy glue dry for 24 hours. This is the curing time.

  9. Step 9

Install a battery in the clock kit and hang on your wall or wrap up if it's a gift.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use a clock kit that runs on a battery. This will eliminate messy cords.
  • Clock kits can be bought at hardware stores, craft stores and art supply stores.
  • You can use a plate hanger to hang your clock if it fits your heart shaped platter.
  • Try using a plate hanger to hang your plate or platter on the wall. This will eliminate the need to glue a hook on the back.
  • Drill the hole slowly. If you try to rush this part of the Valentine’s craft you will risk cracking your plate or platter in half. You can also work from the front, then flip the plate over and drill from the back as well.
