1. Decide what color is prominent in the room you want to paint.

2. If there is a fabric or pillow with the prominent color take it with you to the paint store.

3. Place the item you brought next to the various colors until you see something that you like. Choose a few different colors.

4. Ask if the store has larger paint samples than the small samples on the displays.

5. Take the samples home BEFORE you purchase any paint because the color will look different in your home due to the lighting. If you see a color you really like try purchasing a quart first.

6. Tape the paint samples on the wall in different locations. If you purchased a quart just paint a 4’ x 4’ area. Be sure to feather out the paint edges so there is no hard edge.

7. View the paint samples in the daytime and night. Also on a cloudy day. You want to live with the samples before buying gallons of paint.

8. If the color works with your décor and you like the way it looks in the day as well as at night – you are ready to purchased gallons and start painting

9. This is important: keep the label from the paint so you know the exact color mix in case you need to purchase more due to some remodeling or small damage.
