Choosing the perfect name for your child is hard enough, but it becomes a painful chore when your partner won't help! Even worse, when he says, "I don't care, you choose," but when you choose, he says, "No way will my kid be named that!" Ugh! Here are some hints to get his real input - without a fight.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Although it may be the only topic that you think of day and night, don't talk about finding the perfect name all the time. This may cause him stress and he may start refusing to give his opinion at all!

  2. Step 2

When you do talk with him about potential names, keep it informal and casual at first. While he's playing a game or watching television, mention a name you heard (especially if it's one from the game/show that you like!). Just don't overload him. Ask about a couple names, then talk about something else. You don't want him to get frustrated and refuse to help at all.

  3. Step 3

Remember to encourage his input, even if you don't agree with it. Don't make him feel stupid even if he only likes tacky names. Try to be diplomatic. If you don't like the name, just say that you don't like it and avoid going into details.

  4. Step 4

Make a game of it! Get him to make a list of his favorite names and you do the same. Pair off the names in a showdown (he can think of it like basketball finals). Whichever name wins, you both agree to use.

  5. Step 5

Most importantly, remember to take it slow. You have nine months to choose the perfect name, so don't rush yourself (or him!). The right name will come to you in time.
