How to Create Your Own Household Fragrances

The air in the home can get rather stuffy particularly when windows are kept closed. Commercial household deodorants and sprays often have chemicals in them that may not be good for your health or may cause allergies. You can deodorize your home and create special fragrances. It's much healthier and a lot of fun to come up with some new ideas.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Glass container-sterilized or a diffuser bottle.
  • Distilled water
  • Pure fragrance oil(s)1/3 oz.

Step1
Pour distilled water in container leaving enough room at the top to be able to shake the ingredients when done.
Step2
Add 3 to 5 drops of your choice of fragrance oil. This can be one particular fragrance or a combination of fragrances. Shake well to make sure the oil is well mixed with the distilled water.
Step3
Spray lightly in the beginning. Keep direct spray away from pets and children. A light spray upward and away from furniture will give you a chance to decide if you like that particular fragrance and if it could possibly cause an allergic reaction.

Tips & Warnings

  • Try new fragrances or combinations of fragrances according to the season.
  • For winter use Pine, cedar, nutmeg, ginger
  • Springtime: Light, flowery scents are nice such as lilac, jasmine, lavender
  • Summertime: Peppermint, lemon and some citrus combinations
  • Fall: Apple, pumpkin, nutmeg, orange
  • There are numerous website that have suggestions for interesting combinations of oil fragrances to try.
  • As with any new idea or product that is used in the home one should check on possible health concerns.
