How to Decide if You Should Vote for Mike Huckabee

As the 2008 Presidential election is less than a year away, one Republican candidate seems to have come literally from nowhere to the national spotlight. Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee has found his stride among the Christian Fundamentalists and Evangelicals, but few people know and understand his politics. Before you head to the polls to cast a vote for Huckabee, keep reading to see if you agree with his politics.

1. Ask yourself if you believe in states' rights. Most Republicans believe that the federal government should interfere less with the dealings of the state, but Mike Huckabee believes that issues like abortion should not be left up to the state as to him, it is a moral issue. If you believe that the federal government should interfere more with the lives of people then you should vote for Huckabee.
2. Does his faith mirror your own? Huckabee has often said that his religion will help him set policies as President, which means if your values don't mirror his then what you believe is of no consequence to him. This is especially true of the Americans and members of the international community that must comply with policies guided by his faith.
3. Define conservative. If you truly consider yourself a conservative, then you probably want someone that is conservative on all issues. Mike Huckabee's record as governor clearly illustrates his liberal economic, crime, and immigration policies. When you define what conservative means to you, your decision to vote for Huckabee may change.
4. How do you feel about illegal immigration? As governor, Mike Huckabee granted in-state tuition breaks for children of illegal immigrants. His argument is based on the fact that punishing criminals is un-Christian and he even struck down a bill to deny benefits to illegal immigrants. If you agree with his position then you should vote for Mike Huckabee.
5. Is evolution fact or fiction? Mike Huckabee is a strong believer in creationism and believes that it should be taught in public schools. Although he doesn't flat out say that he believes the world was created in a week, he does deny Darwin's theory of evolution.
6. Do you believe in more or less taxes? Although Huckabee claims to be a fiscal conservative, as governor he cut taxes by $378 million but increased taxes for a total of almost $900 million. If lower taxes appeal to you in the currently dwindling economy, reconsider voting for Mike Huckabee.
