It is one book in the Bible that is not filled with moral teaching, or warnings for those who do not obey its teaching. The name of God is not mentioned. Nevertheless, the book of Esther is one of two books in the Bible (Ruth is the other) named after a woman, and there is a lot we can learn from the life of this Jewish lady who became a queen.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Read the book of Esther. Ask God to help you understand it and how it applies to you. Take notes.

  2. Step 2

Esther and other Jews were under the authority of the Persian King Xerxes. From this we can learn, or remember that God is with us no matter where we go. His love remains with us even in unpleasant circumstances.

  3. Step 3

Queen Vashti refused to display her beauty before guests at a royal party, incurring the wrath of the king. Esther was made queen, but she did not tell the king she was a Jew. She further endeared herself to the king by revealing a plot to kill him. From this we can learn that God will use whatever circumstances for His glory and our good. We can trust Him through good times and bad.

  4. Step 4

A man who worked for the king, Haman, because the uncle of Esther, Mordecai, would not bow to him, got the king to pass a royal decree to have all Jews killed. Queen Esther could not be granted an audience with the king unless invited, unless she received his grace. (Her life was further endangered because she was a Jew.) Regardless, she did seek an audience with the king, and he granted her one. She told of the wicked plot, and it was not carried out. From this we can learn that we should obey God and fear Him more than man.

  5. Step 5

Haman was hanged. From this we can learn that those who deny God will pay in the end. We should always follow Him and pray for those who don't. Tell them the gospel of Jesus Christ, the One Who can save and give a home in heaven.
