Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach and Redondo Beach are great on their own. But they're even better when experienced together. So take the day to explore, enjoy and compare these three beach cities that are only a couple miles apart.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Good walking shoes
  • Camera
  • Backpack
  1. Step 1

Have breakfast at one of Manhattan's local eateries, such as Hennessey's.

  2. Step 2

Walk down to the pier and explore its free marine exhibit.

  3. Step 3

Walk along the Strand until you hit Hermosa Beach.

  4. Step 4

Stop at one of the local boardwalk restaurants for lunch, ice cream or a drink.

  5. Step 5

Find a place to sit down and relax on the beach on the way to Redondo Beach. Engage in whatever beach activities you please.

  6. Step 6

Continue walking to Redondo Beach. Stop at its free aquarium exhibit near Herondo and Hermosa Avenue to see and pet some sea creatures.

  7. Step 7

Walk along Redondo's boardwalk and take note of its restaurants and boating activities. Make reservations as you see fit.

  8. Step 8

Pop into a few of the boardwalk's novelty shops to get a truly unique souvenir. Head toward the pier and into the old-fashioned arcade.

  9. Step 9

Walk up to the pier and explore its three corners (the pier is shaped like a triangle).

  10. Step 10

Have dinner in one of the many eateries.

  11. Step 11

Have a drink at New Tony's or Naja's Place and take in the scenery.

  12. Step 12

Call a cab or begin your walk back.

Tips & Warnings
  • Redondo's boardwalk and pier are on separate levels, so many people miss the boardwalk entirely. If you find that you've walked all the way to the pier and missed the boardwalk, walk down a level and hit the boardwalk on your way back
  • There are a lot of good restaurants along Hermosa Avenue on the way to Redondo that you can also visit, such as On the Rocks, Ruby's, Joe's Crab Shack and Cheesecake Factory
  • The Strand ends about halfway between Hermosa and Redondo Beach. Follow the road up to Hermosa Avenue and continue on

on 1/7/2008 The pier sounds like a whole lot of fun. I will have to explore it if I ever get over that way. Thanks.
