You should begin with an inventory of what is in your refrigerator, pantry, and kitchen cabinets. A lot of people skip this step and end up with two of more of one item. This is not a bad thing unless this item is perishable. If the item is perishable then you are essentially throwing money down the drain. You do not want to end up having to discard any of your grocery purchases.

The next step is to make a grocery list. First list your "needs," and at the end you can list your "wants." What are you missing in your cabinets that is essential to this weeks meals. Next, what would you like to have on hand for dessert of special snacks. A list will help you stick to certain items and not over spend while at the grocery store.

Coupon hunting can save you tons of cash. So take the time to go through the daily papers and mail and see what items you can save on. Cutting out coupons can be a task, but if you stay organized you will not have to worry. Once cut add them to your list so you do not miss them while at the grocery store. Gather the cut coupons in a specific spot; and they will be easy to find when you are on your way to the store.
