Things You'll Need:
- Double-pointed knitting needles
- 1 Ball of Black 10 Cotton Thread
- Variety of Black Beads
- Black thread and a sewing needle
- Snap
- Tassels
-
Step 1
The first thing that you need to know is how to create the simple I-Cord for several projects that you will be creating later on. First step to creating the standard I-Cord is to cast on 3 to 5 stitches depending on the size you want. Knit the first row. Now, knitting with double-pointed needles you need to slide the stitches to the other end of the needle. The working yarn that is attached to the ball is on the left.
-
Step 2
The second step is to bring the working yarn around to the right side of the needle and knit the row.
-
Step 3
The third step is to continue the first and second step until you have knitted the desired length.
-
Step 4
Now, what can we create with this new fiber? Let's create a necklace, a braided curtain tieback, and a beaded tie-on bracelet with your new I-Cord.
-
Step 5
Knotted-Rope Necklace
Create three I-Cords in the length of 40 inches. Fold all three simultaneously in half. You will be tying a knot 3 inches from the bottom of the three I-Cords. Sew a large bead onto the front of the knot and add a string of three beads to each end of the tied ropes. -
Step 6
Braided I-Cord Tiebacks
Create three I-Cords at the length of 12 inches. Sew the top of the three I-Cords together. Braid the three I-Cords and sew the ends. Now simple sew on a snap and a tassel. -
Step 7
Beaded I-Cord Bracelet
The first thing you need to do is to determine how many beads that you need for your bracelet and the length. Measure your wrist. Now knit the first two rows without beads, this will be where you sew on the black velvet ribbon used to tie the bracelet. You need 5 beads for each row that is close to be 1/8 inch. That means for 1 inch you need 40 beads. Therefore, a 7-inch wrist will need 280 beads. -
Step 8
The next step is to string all 280 beads onto your yarn using a beading big eye needle. Slide a bead then knit the stitch. Once you have the desired length knit the last two rows without any beads. Sew on the black velvet ribbons.
