How to Tie a Pendant Hitch Knot

The Pendant Hitch Knot has been used through history to secure stones or a breastplate to a pendant. The knot is very much like the True Lovers Knot and the Fisherman's Knot. The Pendant Hitch is a good way to support a beautiful or semi-precious stone without additional, visible support.

Instructions

    • 1

Use a length of leather thong for the neck loop to assure that the stone or pebble is properly supported. Lay the leather thong on a flat surface.

    • 2

Bring one end of the leather thong across and over the other so as to make a loop (where the stone sits). Make the ends even above the place where they cross.

    • 3

Take the right-side end of the leather thong and wrap it around the left by first weaving it under and then under. Take the end downward under the loop made by the thong as well as the initial loop.

    • 4

Bring the end of the thong up in front of the original loop and through the loop formed in Step 3. Repeat Steps 2 and 3 using the left-side end of the thong.

    • 5

Use a very sharp knife and make a small cut along the inside of the length of the loop where the stone is set. Take care not to cut too deeply but to simply roughen up the inside surface of the thong so that it grips the stone better.

    • 6

Set the stone in the loop and pull up the knot on both sides to secure it. Use a little shoemaker's glue on the backside for extra security for the stone.
