    Instructions

    Things You'll Need

    • Rope (length and thickness to be determined by art project)
      • 1

Form a circle with your piece of rope. This means that you will have one rope end pointing left and the other right. Make sure the end pointing left is on top of the piece pointing right.

      • 2

Take the end that is pointed to the right, bring it over the rope end to the left, and lay it over the opposite end.

      • 3

Bring the bottom loop of the knot over the right end (which is laying across the knot) and under the top loop of the knot.

      • 4

Pull tightly until the artillery loop is formed. You have just learned how to form an artillery loop knot.

    Tips & Warnings

    • This knot was originally developed so servicemen could carry their gun comfortably over their shoulder.

    • You can tie multiple artillery loop knots on the same piece of rope to carry multiple items.

    • Many fishermen also use this knot when stringing the fish they have caught throughout the day. It keeps them separated and easy to carry to the fillet table.
