We use knots more than we realize in our everyday life. When we're tying our shoes, when we're tying our dog's leash to a post and even when we are fishing. One popular knot is a Double Overhand Knot. While not the strongest knot, it is really simple to do.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Rope, string or fishing line
  1. Step 1

Hold your rope so that one end is in each of your hands.

  2. Step 2

Cross the left end of the rope over the right end of the rope and pull through the loop that has been created.

  3. Step 3

Create another knot by repeating the end of the previous action. This means wrapping the end of the rope back through the loop again.

  4. Step 4

Pull the rope until tight. You should now have not one, but two knots in your rope. You have just learned how to tie a double overhand knot.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use a lighter to burn frayed ends of the rope and make them smooth.
  • The Double Overhand Knot is a great knot to tie in a pinch whether you are stringing lure or have a pair of shoes that just won't stay tied.
  • The Double Overhand Knot has also been called the "stopper knot."
