Things You'll Need:
- Discs (may be specialized for putting depending on your preference)
-
Step 1
Gauge the distance to the basket or hole. A Jump Putt is meant for a putt that is 70 to 100 ft. away. Much longer and you are still "throwing," shorter and you don't want a putt with so much momentum.
-
Step 2
Assume the stance for your Disc Golf Jump Putt. Think a jump shot in basketball when it comes to this position. Some people like to stagger their feet, while others like to have their even planted next to each other. Experiment and see which is most comfortable for you.
-
Step 3
Visualize the Jump Putt. Because you are so far away from the basket, you want to choose several markings or points of note along the path to the basket. Mentally take note how your disc needs to go over those places. Also note how high and how fast you want your disc traveling at those certain points. This visualization technique is not unlike preparation for a golf putt.
-
Step 4
Jump and putt your disc. As referenced earlier, this is exactly like letting a jump shot in basketball rip. The momentum you gain from leaping will help propel the disc toward the basket as you throw it. This adds distance to your throw, which you'd otherwise be relying merely on your wrist to complete.
-
Step 5
Experiment with your Jump Putt in Disc Golf. The old golf saying of "drive for show" and "putt for dough" holds true here as well. Practice will certainly get you better. Experiment with throwing the disc and getting it to a place where you can control its peak height and speed and thus know when it starts to taper and fall toward the basket.
