The game of disc golf has been around in more primitive forms for thousands of years. It became a formal sport in 1975 when the first Disc Pole Hole, which was a catching device, was patented by Ed Headrick. He went on to create the Disc Golf Association (DGA) that same year. It's also the leading manufacturer of supplies, though there are also several other companies that sell equipment.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

Find a website that sells disc golf equipment. The Disc Golf Association, Discs Unlimited and Disc Golf World are a few of the websites that sell pole holes or baskets, tee signs, discs, clothing, parts and accessories.

  2. Step 2

Look through the basket types and options. DGA has its patented Pole Holes. Other brands include Mach Lite, Mach V and Mach New II. Some have to be cemented into the ground. Others have an anchor and locking collars. Others are portable and have their own base so they can be moved.

  3. Step 3

Decide which discs you need. There are putters, mid-range drivers and long-range drivers.

  4. Step 4

Read up on the disc's features. Some have a low profile grip with thumb traction, for instance.

  5. Step 5

Make sure the disc is durable and made for more consistent flights. Find out how it handles for short range and long approaches.

  6. Step 6

Compare prices between various companies and websites. See if you can get the same equipment for less somewhere else, to save some money.

  7. Step 7

Ask about quantity discounts. Some companies, like Discs Unlimited, offer discounts if you buy more than 11 discs.
