on 7/17/2008 Buying a personal safety device is a very specific decision. There are many devices out there and deciding which one to buy depends on the situation at hand, your abilities as an individual etc. For instance a timid person might not be the right candidate to own a gun or a taser because maybe they cant use it in the heat of the moment or will use it the wrong way. So maybe for such a person maybe pepper spray might be better or a personal alarm or something else. And this depends whether you need it when you are outdoors or indoors.
