When we are in a situation where we feel the need to defend ourselves, we have to use what we have at that given moment. In many situations, we are going to and from our automobiles, so we have our car keys available. Use the following suggestions to help you know how to use car keys for self defense.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Grasp your car keys firmly in your hand before you exit your vehicle or before you head out to your car in a parking lot or garage. The car keys are metal and hard, so may be the best defense tool that you have with you at the time you come and go to your vehicle.

  2. Step 2

Place the sharpest key going outward from your palm between the middle finger and the ring finger on whichever hand you favor. Keep a tight fist around the rest of the keys on the ring or chain. You must have your hand ready prior to becoming in a dangerous situation. If someone approaches you, you are ready. You are not going to have time to rummage through your purse to find your keys.

  3. Step 3

Punch your assailant in the eyes with your keys if you are being attacked. Use the key as a weapon to do whatever is necessary to escape. Fighting back, using a key you already have in your hand, will help you escape the situation.

  4. Step 4

Use the key fob or the head of the key to sound your car alarm if a threatening person approaches you. Again, you have to have your key in your hand in order to be able to do this. In most cases of newer model vehicles, hitting the alarm or panic button will sound an alarm, start the lights flashing to alert help, and attract attention.
