If you are using an outdated computer system or your hobby is to play with outdated computer equipment when you need to make a repair you might have to replace a part. Unfortunately you usually can not walk into your local retail store to find the part that you need.

Purchase parts machines. The easiest way to have parts for your outdated computer equipment is to keep similar machines on hand to use be as parts machines. Pull parts off of the other machines to use on your computer. Since parts machines do not have to be complete working computers they can often be purchased cheaply.

Check your local classified ads for people selling outdated computers that are similar to yours. They do not necessarily have to be from the same manufacturer as yours to be a good parts machine. Choose machines from the same time period that yours was manufactured to increase the chance of parts compatibility.

Run an ad in the local newspaper offering to purchase outdated computer equipment inexpensively. Or you can run an add offering to haul away outdated computer equipment for free.

Call local computer repair shops to see if they might have the part that you need in stock. Sometimes repair shops will sell used parts to outdated computer equipment.

Search the Internet for the part that you need. Go to one of the major online search engine sites and fun a search for "used computer parts" or search for the specific part that you are looking for. Don't forget to also check online auction sites such as eBay.
