How to Care for a Bodyboard

The key to the best performance on a bodyboard is proper care for the board. Proper care of the board helps it last longer and improves the performance of the board itself. Caring for a bodyboard only takes a few minutes a week and substantially adds to the life of the board.

Instructions

    • 1

Wash the board with fresh water after every time it's in the surf. Use a soft rag to wash the board on all sides, corners and edges. It needs to be washed thoroughly. Salt from the seawater damages the bodyboards and increases the wear on the board.

    • 2

Place the board in the shade and allow it to dry. The shade prevents the board from warping and bubbling. If you do not have time to set the board out, wipe it off with a soft towel using gentle, circular motions.

    • 3

Store the bodyboard with the nose down and on a board sock, if possible. A board sock absorbs any water that slides out of the plug hole after it the bodyboard has been washed.

    • 4

Polish the board regularly with wax to keep the outside smooth and to protect the board's finish.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you have to leave the bodyboard at the beach, place the board in the ground stick-side up.

  • Store the board in a safe place out of reach of any pet with claws or teeth. This makes sure the board does not get bitten or scratched. Do not lay anything on top of the board. The weight may bend the bodyboard out of shape.
