Selling surfboards is a fun job, especially if you're already a surfer. You can help first-timers get the perfect board and be around professional surfers, helping them choose their boards and simply talk about surfing with them. If you want to sell surfboards, there are some things to keep in mind.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Learn everything you can about surfboards. Subscribe to magazines, such as Eastern Surf Magazine, or join online forums such as CleanLineSurf (see Resources below) and talk to other surfers about what they like about their boards. That way you can find the best surfboard for the surfers who come into your shop.

  2. Step 2

Take surfing lessons, if you've never been on a surfboard. You can't be expected to sell something if you've never tried it out for yourself. Talk to your instructor about the different kinds of boards and how to help first-timers choose the best board.

  3. Step 3

Ask if you can apprentice with another salesperson who sells surfboards, perhaps someone at your store. The other salesperson can help you learn about what kinds of questions you'll get about surfboards and how to answer them.

  4. Step 4

Study the surfing lingo so you understand what surfers are asking of you. If you don't understand what they want, they won't buy a surfboard from you.
