There are many variations of stud poker and Friday night poker games with the boys at home have whatever rules they want to impose. The most common stud poker game played today is 7-card stud. Learn 7-card stud poker if you plan to visit the casinos to play.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Learn the rules of 7-card stud before you play for money (see Resource section). The rules in general are the same but also check with your dealer to find out any specifics at his table that may be different.

  2. Step 2

Play 7-card stud poker, which begins with the dealer giving each player 1 card face down. He then deals a second card face down to each player. The third card is dealt face up.

  3. Step 3

Place the first round of betting now. The person with the lowest card showing gets to start the betting unless he says check. Then betting proceeds around the table in a clockwise direction.

  4. Step 4

Continue the game with the next card face up. Another round of bets is placed. At any time, you can fold if you think the odds are against you winning. You must match the bet if you want to stay in the game.

  5. Step 5

Play on with another round face up. Bets are placed on that round. Then another round and finally the last round is face down. Last bets are placed on that round.

  6. Step 6

Make the best poker hand you can with 5 of the 7 cards and show your cards. The dealer will declare the winner of this hand of stud poker and slide the pot to that player.
