Most people who use iPods also use iTunes to manage the music on their iPod and on their computer. However, just because iTunes is made by the same company as iPod does not mean you have to use it. There are many third party iPod managers for Mac. You'll want to find the one which is right for you.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Search Download.com for iPod managers. Either type in "iPod manager" and hit search from the main page or choose "Multimedia and Design" from the menu at the side, then "mp3" for a list of all mp3 software, including iPod managers.

  2. Step 2

Narrow your Download.com search results. First, select the version of Mac operating system you use to display all compatible iPod managers. You can also narrow your search to "free iPod manager" or "iPod managers which offer free trials."

  3. Step 3

Go to the iPod Managers blog. The blog gives reviews of iPod managers and provides links to download them.

  4. Step 4

Visit the websites of the main iPod managers. Check out the websites for gtkpod, Banshee and Amarok. Banshee and Amarok also include media players so you can manage your iPod, organize your music on your computer and play you music all with one program.

  5. Step 5

Look for special features to find an iPod manager right for you. In addition to support for Mac, look for playlist management, a way to subscribe to and listen to podcasts, audio editing and support for all the audio files you have.
