XPlay is a top quality iPod manager that integrates seamlessly into your Windows operating system. Since many Windows users have found that iTunes functionality is foreign to them or that it causes problems with their computer, XPlay is a nice alternative to the conventional iPod program. Follow these steps to use XPlay as your iPod Manager.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Get the program. You can get the XPlay program directly for the website of its producer, Mediafour. Mediafour offers a free trial version of XPlay that allows you to test the software and make sure that it runs smoothly with your computer. If you are happy with XPlay you can buy it for a reasonable price and download it immediately.

  2. Step 2

Access your music. Once you have downloaded and installed XPlay you can access all of your iPod music by simply opening the "XPlay Music" folder that the program installs. Inside this folder your music is arranged in the same way that it appears on your actual iPod. So browse by artist, album, genre or any of the other browsing categories on the iPod.

  3. Step 3

Copy music onto and off of the iPod. Without XPlay, copying music off of the iPod is difficult and complicated. Use XPlay to copy music off the iPod by simply selecting music from your "XPlay Music" folder and dragging it to any location on your computer. To copy music from your computer to your iPod simply select the music on your computer and then drag and drop it to your "XPlay Music" folder.

  4. Step 4

Make and manage playlists. One of XPlay's most convenient features is that it allows you to use your basic Windows Explorer controls to create and manage playlists on your iPod. To create a playlist, go to the music you want and select the songs you want on the playlist. If the songs are from multiple locations create a new folder in your XPlay Music folder and drag and drop songs there. Then select all the songs, right-click and then select "Send to Playlist" and make your appropriate sorting choices.
