It seems that as soon as you buy an iPod or MP3 player, there's a newer and cooler gadget on the market. It's just a matter of time before you'll want to get rid of it and upgrade to a new one. There are several ways to sell your used iPod. Follow these steps to get top dollar.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Check out websites like Craigslist and eBay. There are dozens of iPods for re-sale there (see Resources below).
Step2
Compare your device with iPods that are similar. Look at the available features, gadget's age and amount the iPod has been used.
Step3
Set your price. Decide based on what new iPods are going for how much you should ask for. Most used iPods go for between $35 and $400.
Step4
Post an ad online. Describe the condition of the gadget, how much memory it has and what the sale includes. Have interested parties contact you via phone or email. Add a picture of the iPod to juice up your posting.
Step5
Put an ad in your local newspaper or want ad digest. Describe the iPod by explaining how much memory it has and what features it comes with. Include your phone number.
Step6
Consider taking all the music off your iPod first. The Recording Industry Association of America says it's a violation to sell a fully loaded iPod. They equate it with selling a DVD full of music.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make sure to clean your iPod so it looks great when it's time to sell.
