Bathing suits used to be cover ups for when you went swimming. Now, there are nearly as many choices as with any other kind of clothing. Even though wearing a suit can be intimidating, there are so many options designed to flatter the right parts of your body. If you have a shorter torso, follow these steps to find a suit that will make you appear taller and slimmer.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Look for a bikini. The bottom should have a low rise, so more of your midriff shows. Your torso appears longer.

  2. Step 2

Go silly over stripes. No, not horizontal ones. Those will make you look wider. Opt for a one-piece that has thin, vertical stripes down the sides. People's eyes will follow the stripes and you'll look longer.

  3. Step 3

Shop in the petite section. Because your torso is shorter, suits may sag on you. Petites are made shorter and may fit you better, too.

  4. Step 4

Opt for seaming down the sides of the suit. Like stripes, the seaming will make your torso appear longer.

  5. Step 5

Get some design variety by choosing a suit with a solid bottom and patterned top. This will bring the eye up on your body.

  6. Step 6

Browse for suits with specialized tags explaining what body type it's best fitted for. Some companies are including these helpful tags to make your shopping a little bit easier.

Tips & Warnings
  • Don't wear a tankini. They're better for women with long torsos.
  • Avoid belts, they'll appear to cut your body in half.
  • Avoid all-over printed designs.
