Step1
File your tax return electronically online. When filing, you must designate where and how you would like your refund to be sent. You can choose direct deposit or choose to have a paper check sent out.

Wait at least 7 days after you e-file to check the status of your refund. Tax returns filed electronically are processed in half the time than the traditional paper returns.
Step3
Log on to the official Internal Revenue Service (IRS) website to start tracking your e-file refund and click on the "Where's My Refund" link on the homepage (see Resources below).
Step4
Gather the following information before continuing to track your refund: Your refund amount, your filing status, your social security number.
Step5
Continue the tracking process by clicking on the next "Where's My Refund" link.
Step6
Fill in your social security number, filing status and refund amount in the appropriate areas and click "Submit."
Step7
Continue filling in the requested information on the following pages until your refund information has been located.
