Mother's Day is the one special day of the year when sons and daughters take a moment to thank mom for all the hard work and care she's put into raising her children. So for those of you who forgot Mother's Day, the situation doesn't bode well. Luckily, there are a few good ways to explain why you forgot your mom's favorite holiday.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging

Step1
Explain with a gift. The single best way to explain why you forgot Mother's Day is to give your mom an extra special gift. This way you can say that you didn't actually forget but that the gift, special as it is, took longer than expected to arrive. Even if your mom sees right through that white lie she'll probably still appreciate the effort and (belated) sentiment you put into it.
Step2
Tell her you were under the weather. A mother will excuse almost any mistake made by a sick child. If you don't mind pulling a little bit of a devilish excuse, tell her that you had been "sick and delirious" all week and thought that Mother's Day was still coming up. It might take a little bit of moral flexibility on your part but at least you'll spare your mom's feelings.
Step3
Be honest. If you're more inclined to listen to the angel rather than the devil on your shoulder then go for honesty, a quality that all mothers cherish. Tell your mom that you just can't lie to her and that the reason you forgot Mother's Day is that you simply forgot it. This might not be the most flattering explanation but it is the most likely to prevent further troubles.
Step4
Take her out to a special event. If you want to just flub the question, take your mom out to a special event like a concert or special dinner that's going on after Mother's Day. This will give your mom the impression that you remembered Mother's Day but thought it more important to celebrate the holiday right than to get the nitty-gritty details correct. This way you can explain having forgotten the day without actually explaining it.
