If you're a horse racing fan, you know there's no better race than the Kentucky Derby. It's the longest continuously-running sporting event in America. Every May, thousands of people descend on Louisville, Kentucky to attend the prestigious race. Collecting memorabilia is a great way to commemorate the horses, trainers and jockeys. Follow the steps below to start your own collection.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Collect the mint julep glasses. Every year there's a different commemorative glass. The first glass was produced in 1938. You can buy one today for $3 to $35. Some are valued up to $16,000.
Step2
Stack up the horse-racing magazines. You can purchase Sports Illustrated magazines featuring horse racing covers and industry magazines with features about the Kentucky Derby.
Step3
Look for programs from past Kentucky Derby's. There are many for sale online through shops and auction websites. They usually post the year and condition of the program.
Step4
Immortalize famous horses, jockeys and trainers as bobble head dolls. They became a craze in 2001 when the track started giving them out as promotions.
Step5
Frame a special Kentucky Derby moment. You can buy pictures of the victory ride, winners circle, grandstands, celebration and the like.
Step6
Spend more to get real collectors pieces. Hand signed photographs are available, in frames, for $500 to $1,500.
