How to Get Spanish Speaking IRS Help
Just because a person's primary spoken language is Spanish does not mean that help is unavailable when filing taxes or dealing with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). There are a variety of resources available for Spanish speakers; you just need to know where to look.

Visit the IRS's official website (see Resources below). The entire website is available in Spanish. Simply click on the "Espanol" link at the top of the page and you should be transported to the Spanish version of the site.

View a list of downloadable IRS forms (see resources below). Most forms are either bilingual or have a separate Spanish version. The instructions for most major forms, such as Form 1040 or Form SS-4 (application for an employer identification number) are available in both Spanish and English.

Make a trip to your local IRS Taxpayer Assistance office. All U.S. states have offices strategically placed near major cities and their suburbs, at which taxpayer assistance personnel can help you in Spanish, English or a variety of other languages for free. See the resources section below for a list of Taxpayer Assistance offices by state.

Watch the Telemundo Network. This Spanish-speaking television network has partnered with the IRS to provide programming periodically for Spanish-speaking taxpayers. Programs such as "Taxes and You" help Spanish-speakers with topics such as tax returns, tax credits and electronic filing.

Contact the IRS; many of its help lines have Spanish-speaking options. TeleTax, an automated system providing tax advice 24 hours a day, has a Spanish option; the number is (800) 829-4477. The IRS's toll-free tax advice line is manned by Spanish-speaking assistants during business hours; the number is (800) 829-1040.
