Know which foods represent complex carbohydrates. These foods consist of any kind of cereal or grain, as well as all beans, rice, pasta, potatoes, carrots and corn, just to name a few. Foods that are higher in starch are considered complex carbohydrates.

Plan them into your diet. Complex carbohydrates should make up a majority of your diet, while simple carbohydrates, known as sugars, should only make up a small part of your daily caloric intake.

Work them in to your grocery list. Consider buying a cook book with recipes for complex carbohydrates to vary your intake. Make a list of the complex carbohydrates you are going to include in your diet and work them into meal planning and your grocery list to make sure they are always available in your home.
