Step 1
Stand with your back to the hammock and bend slightly as if you are going to sit down. Reach behind you and carefully spread out the hammock weave, holding the hammock on either edge and pulling it apart tight where the center of your body, or your buttocks, will rest.
-
Step 2
Continue to hold the edges of the hammock as you slowly sit into the tight portion of the weave. While still spreading apart the hammock's edges, allow all of your weight to rest on the center and lean back. Once you are fully reclined, release the edges and relax.
-
Step 3
Lay in a hammock at an angle for the most comfortable position. While most people lay completely horizontal, the outer edges of the hammock can fold in and become a nuisance, depending on the style of your hammock. If you get into your hammock with your head at one corner and your feet at the opposite corner, the hammock will better support your weight and back and you will be able to stretch out completely flat. This way of getting into a hammock is the best position for sleeping.
-
Step 4
Spread out as much as possible if you are lucky enough to have a double hammock, like the Yucatan or Mayan style hammock. In this style you can stretch out your body across the center, lying perpendicular to the ends instead of horizontal. This position will allow your body the most room.
-
Step 5
Share your hammock with another person, again, if you happen to have a double. The steps for getting into the hammock are the same, just with one person on each side of the hammock. Two people can get into a hammock and rest horizontally or perpendicularly, so experiment to find the most comfortable position for your.
